Invest in yourself
I've started planning for 2019. Do you do that too? It's one of my favourite things to do, because I love making lists, planning ahead, and dreaming up new ideas. I'm not always the best in following through on those ideas, but I've stopped a long time ago beating myself up over it. The dreaming stage is fun, and even if I only follow through on 10% I declare it a success. In a world that's so rough sometimes we have to be gentle with ourselves.
All of my plans for next year are fun ones! The hard stuff comes anyway, no point in making our lives even harder. That's why I haven't dieted in over 10 years, don't make overly ambitious fitness resolutions, and I never plan any crazy life overhauls.
The most fun thing so far is a trip my sister and I are planning: a hiking vacation in Ireland! She pointed me to this website, and I've been having a blast looking through all the different options. What's great about it is that you don't have to carry all your stuff, it's being transported to the next location for you! We are thinking of going to Connemara, because look:
How gorgeous is that?! I've never been to Ireland, and it's been on my list for years. I'm so excited!
Another goal of mine is to work towards getting more articles published in magazines. I occasionally write for the digital magazines Thought Catalog, Thrive Global and SheSavvy, but my dream is to be published by one of the big ones: BuzzFeed, Marie Claire, The New York Times ... those are lofty goals, but you never know, right?
To move this goal from unachievable into the realm of possibility I signed up for a writing course. Specifically, a course designed to learn how to pitch and write for magazines. In order to afford this course I had to reallocate the money I spent on my ad at The Bloggess blog and cancel it.
When I told them that I wouldn't renew my ad spot because of the writing course they sent me this back:
"Always invest in yourself and you'll never go wrong."
I just love that!
I wanted to share it with you as a reminder that you deserve to invest time, money, and energy in yourself.
Treat yourself well, be gentle with yourself, and do what you've always wanted to do.
You are worth it!
xoxo Miriam

October was a great month for us, I talked a little bit about it here
Do you know what NaNoWriMo is? It's this crazy writing challenge where you aim to write 50,000 words in 30 days. I'm doing it this year, even though I'm already behind. As soon as I'm done with this letter I have to write 2,000 words. Wish me luck!
I'm very grateful that we don't know the future, and I explained why in this post: The joy of not knowing the future
